Types of Dentures

Full Dentures replace a complete arch of teeth. When used to replace the upper arch, they include an acrylic base that covers the gums and the roof of the mouth, providing a firm fit. Full dentures for the lower arch are similar, but the base is shaped like a horseshoe to avoid restricting the tongue.

Partial Dentures fill gaps left by several individual missing teeth and are attached in many ways, most commonly by metal clips. Our dentist can also secure your partial to crowns if the anchoring teeth require treatment, which may actually improve the fit of your denture. Which is Right for You?

If you have no existing teeth and want a fast and affordable replacement option, Dr. Shahinyan typically recommends a full adhesive-based denture. She will also discuss the cost and process for implant-supported dentures since these are a more comprehensive solution.

If you have any healthy teeth remaining, a partial denture will be most appropriate. If your remaining teeth are not healthy, our dentist will determine if they can be treated and topped with crowns to support a partial denture or if they should be extracted. Depending on your specific case, she will make a recommendation for either a partial or full denture.
