Dental Implants

Dental implant - 3d renderingDental implants are body-safe titanium posts that serve as artificial tooth roots. When surgically placed into the jawbone by our skilled periodontist, the implants fuse naturally with living tissue and bone. This bonding process allows your posts to become a permanent part of your jawbone. If you're healthy enough to undergo routine tooth extraction procedures, you may also qualify for dental implants.

Dr. Geghani Shahinyan performs a thorough oral health exam to help determine if implants are right for you. You have higher chances of treatment success if you don’t smoke, suffer from diabetes, or have heart problems.

Implant Treatment Planning & Placement

The dental implant process requires careful and detailed planning. We start your evaluation with a series of digital and panoramic x-rays. These diagnostic tools give us valuable insight into the health of your teeth, roots, gums, head, and neck. If you’re generally healthy, but your jawbone is weak, a bone graft procedure can be included in your treatment plan. Before placement, our periodontist grafts new bone material in your jaw to help ensure successful implant placement.

Our periodontist places your implants with precision and skill. She uses advanced surgical guides and her many years of experience to provide you with proper treatment. Your implants will act as the permanent foundation for your custom restoration. It can take up to six months for your tissue and bone to fuse with your implants. When healing is complete, we invite you back to our office to place your crown, bridge, or denture restoration.

Top Quality Restorations for Superior Dental Health

When your teeth endure damage or decay, you deserve expert care designed to renew your dental function, appeal, and preserve health. This is why we work with local labs that use top quality materials for safe and natural-looking treatment. By doing so, we can better preserve and protect your teeth.

Composite Fillings

Once we’ve removed decayed areas of enamel, we fill the cavity. The composite resin material makes applying and shaping easy to provide you with a completely renewed tooth. Composite fillings are ideal for restoring teeth with minor chips, cracks, decay, and wear. We can also treat any tooth in your smile.

Porcelain Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays are indirect restorations because they are crafted outside of your smile. These treatments are perfect for treating teeth and molars that are too damaged for a filling but not enough to need a crown. Inlays and onlays are different from fillings in that we insert them into the cavity as a single piece.

Inlays fill gaps in the surface of your tooth but never extend beyond its cusps, while onlays extend over one or more cusps. Crowns are different because they cover the entire tooth surface.

Dental Crowns

Crowns encase the entire structure of a severely decayed, damaged, or worn tooth. With crowns, we can restore the shape and functionality of weak or damaged teeth while making them look as natural as possible. These restorations are versatile and have many uses in restorative dentistry.

  • Complete a dental implant
  • Support a dental bridge
  • Protect a tooth after a root canal
  • Strengthen weak and worn teeth
  • Improve the look of a tooth
  • Treat misshapen and discolored teeth
  • Improve biting and chewing functions

Fixed Bridges

Dental bridges consist of two or more crowns designed to fill in the gaps between missing and remaining teeth in a row. Traditional bridges use two hallow crowns placed on natural teeth on either side of the gap for lasting support. Once placed, these restorations complete your smile, helping restore biting and chewing functions and keep neighboring teeth in place.

Full & Partial Dentures

Full dentures are an ideal solution when natural teeth no longer remain, while partial dentures restore multiple missing teeth.

Complete dentures can replace all teeth missing in the upper and lower jaws. Our dentures are made from safe and natural-looking materials. Both types consist of a pink acrylic base fabricated to mimic gum tissue with a set of porcelain teeth shaded and shaped to resemble natural teeth.

Root Canal Therapy

Anatomy of healthy teeth - 3d renderingWhen the inner tissues of your tooth, also known as the pulp, become infected, we perform root canal therapy to protect and preserve your natural tooth structure. A root canal is a straightforward procedure designed to reduce pain and remove diseased tissue.

During a root canal, we gently remove bacteria and the infected pulp from inside the root canal chamber. After thorough cleaning and disinfecting, we fill the chamber with an antibacterial material and seal the tooth. Once dry, our dentist can either apply a filling or place a custom crown over your tooth to persevere its structure and protect it from future infection.

Should I be Worried if I Need a Root Canal?

Not at all. The truth is that root canal therapy is the last defense to preserve your oral health and save your natural tooth. If the infected pulp is not removed, it can spread to other areas of your smile, your body, and can even result in tooth loss.

Periodontal Care to Restore Oral Health

Woman with gum inflammation, closeupThe health of your gums plays a crucial role in your oral and overall wellness. Gum disease often occurs when plaque and tartar build up under and along the gumline. Gingivitis is the first phase of gum disease, which is also the easiest to treat. If left to progress, it could develop into periodontitis, the most severe and damaging phase of gum disease. At Geghani Shahinyan, DDS, we provide treatment for all stages of gum disease performed by periodontist, Dr. Valeria Klein.

Scaling and root planing are also known as deep periodontal cleanings. Tooth scaling involves the removal of plaque, tartar, and toxic by-products from teeth as well as above and below the gumline. Root planing smoothes all rough areas on the roots' surfaces. This helps keep bacteria, plaque, and tartar from re-forming underneath the gumline. It also allows your gums to heal correctly and reattach.

Surgical procedures include gingivectomies and gum grafts. During a gingivectomy, Dr. Shahinyan removes and reshapes loose, infected gum tissue to get rid of pockets between the teeth and gums. Gum grafts can correct receding gums by grafting tissue to the areas in need of treatment. This procedure involves our periodontist removing pieces of tissue from the roof of your mouth or nearby healthy gums.
